My world was rocked this week to the core. A tragedy occurred that brought me to my knees.
Everything I thought I knew seemed gone.
Everything I thought I was seemed fake.
Everything I thought about the world seemed false.
I don't want to write about the details here; suffice to say that I received news I never would have imagined getting, and yet a part of me feared I would get.
I'm sharing here in the hope that what I did is helpful to you. We all get rocked from time to time. Life's a contact sport, Sydney Banks would say.
So What Did I Do?
I allowed my emotions to come. They swirled in like a crowd of sorrows: pain, guilt, blame, shame, horror, sadness—deep, deep sadness. I let them.
I didn't try to fix my feelings, analyse them, make excuses, or hide from them.
I took a step back. Instead of leaping into 'doing' (my habit) I got quiet. I did what was needed, and I took time for myself. Allowed my mind to settle.
I reached out to people who needed to know and was blessed with incredible support that I didn't expect but that I was grateful for.
When people reached out, I allowed them to comfort me in their ways, and I felt grateful.
Every day, I blessed everyone concerned in the tragedy.
Right now I'm ready to support the others in my circle that have been affected so I've reached out to them and offered a group Zoom.
I hope this list is helpful and that if you need a moment to reconnect with yourself when life throws a curved ball then do reach out and I'll do my best to provide a listening ear.
